Shot Online Review

Shot online is a Golf MMO developed by Webzen and published by Games Campus in November 2004. It has been around for more than 10 years and that is a good sign of a healthy MMO that has a balanced blend of free to play and non-heavy pay to win options for its players.

The graphics may seem a bit old compared to other similar game titles available in the market right now but they still manage to capture the essence of the game and they are colourful and bright. This might be a negative point for some players that like the higher quality graphics that are in most games nowadays but Shot Online manages, despite its old age to run smoothly.

In the audio aspect the game does not have a lot to offer and that is not bad since golf is known for the quietness it requires. The gameplay is very in depth and realistic and I believe that it immerses the player into a complete golfing experience.

At the start of the game, players have the option of choosing one of five pre-set characters (which is increased to seven, if you are a premium player), which have their own set of skills. The customization is limited to the attire and there is only the option of either changing the top and bottom colour or picking one of the thee unique outfits  that have locked colours.

Some RPG elements are present like leveling up which grants skill points that can be used in the talent tree which is split into four categories: Power, Impact, Stamina and Skill. There are also Outfits and equipment that are available to unlock and buy but these do not provide any bonuses to a players skill.

There are Guilds in game that allow players to band together under one leader and then they can also scout new players and try to recruit them. The Quests in the game is another RPG element but since this is a golf game they include reaching specific requirements, like ending a course with a certain amount of points.

As the shop does not enforce players to buy from it and there is a relative balance to the pay to win aspect of the game, I would suggest players to give Shot Online a try as it provides a fun and relaxing time.

Growing up I had the luck to encounter the art of video games at a very young age in South Africa in 1990. I was captivated from the first moment I played video games from the educational math games at school to the purely entertaining video games at home. This love cultivated in studying Audio and Visual Arts, where I created the interactive audiovisual play in the form of a video game titled "The Life of Death". Over the last few years I have also been a videogame journalist as a hobby. Recently, I completed my Postgraduate studies in Games Art and Design at the University of Hertfordshire. My goal is to get into the video games industry and be a part of the creation process of video games.
