RAN Online is an MMORPG that was developed and published by Min Communications in February 2005. Starting out players get to choose one of three schools: Sacred Gate, Mystic Peak and Phoenix. Following that you get to pick either male or female genders and then decide which one of the currently nine available classes: Brawler, Archer, Swordman, Shaman, Extreme, Scientist, Assassin, Magician and Shaper you want to be.

The schools fight for control of areas and has PvE and PvP content to explore. The graphics of the game are visibly old and if you are not a fan of this style the game will not appeal to you. However, if you can look past RAN Online’s age the game has to offer some pretty nice moments that are worth your time.

The level cap is at 260 and that is something that might seem like a distant goal but if you do not focus on leveling up quickly and burn out it will become sooner rather than later. There is an in-game item shop that offers some items for real life money.

Overall, Ran Online has been around for a long time and the textures, the animations and the playstyle seem a bit stale and it is hard to see many people enjoy it nowadays as it does not provide something refreshing compared to other games of the same genre. So, if you are not looking for some nostalgia of the old MMO’s I would not sugggest trying it out. However, on the plus side it is free to play and its PvP is worth giving it a shot.

Growing up I had the luck to encounter the art of video games at a very young age in South Africa in 1990. I was captivated from the first moment I played video games from the educational math games at school to the purely entertaining video games at home. This love cultivated in studying Audio and Visual Arts, where I created the interactive audiovisual play in the form of a video game titled "The Life of Death". Over the last few years I have also been a videogame journalist as a hobby. Recently, I completed my Postgraduate studies in Games Art and Design at the University of Hertfordshire. My goal is to get into the video games industry and be a part of the creation process of video games.
