The Lord of the Rings Online is a free to play online 3D MMORPG by Turbine, based on the legendary Tolkien book trilogy of The Lord of the Rings. Explore the world of Middle Earth as a Hobbit, Elf, Dwarf or Man, choose one of the ten available classes and even more professions, and journey through the regions of Eriador, Rhovanion and Gondor; visiting many iconic lands and meeting characters from the original books.

The story driven gameplay will guide newcomers through the majestic adventure but will also provide old timers with a well-crafted game full of elements that will remind them in a sweet nostalgic way the lore of the epic trilogy. Even though Lord of the Rings Online is not a new MMORPG game as it was launched back in 2007, it is still one of the most popular games, maintaining a large player base. It carries some of the finest “heavyweight” original content that helped to shape the present characteristics of the genre and it continues to outshine the competition in many aspects.

During your quests you will level up your character, learn new skills, customize by spending trait points in a talent tree, discover new items and complete various deeds which will in turn offer you Turbine points to use in the Cash Shop, the in-game store for unlocking specific game related content such as Quest Packs. Alternatively, a player can opt to become a VIP member in order to get unlimited access to all features and extra PVP modes.

For PVP, it should be noted that it appears quite limited in scope and that without VIP access you won’t be able to enjoy the full options. All things considered, the somewhat extended use of the in-game store for unlocking game content may disengage some players. However, Lord of the Rings Online is a must-play game as it successfully presents the rich fantasy universe of Middle Earth, staying loyal to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
