Spellweaver is an online TCG published by Dream Reactor LLC and is heavily inspired by the famous Magic The Gathering as well as Hearthstone. The game containts 7 different deck colors-archetypes which you can choose, which as with MTG, are portrayed with their own color.

Spellweaver may seem like a classic “no-point” card game but it may surprise you with the new mechanics it introduces to the TCG genre. Your mana pool, which is also the same as in MTG also works as a level for your cards. At the start of your turn you have to choose on whether you want to get 1 mana point a draw a card or gain one devotion (level to your color). This is a mechanic that requires extra thought from the player since focusing on only one of them may cost him the game.

One more new technique Spellweaver implements is the Creature Speed. On the left side of the card there is the speed of the creature indicator which shows whether your creature can attack and block the opponent’s creature. If your speed is higher than your opponent’s then your creature attacks or blocks succesfully.

Spellweaver’s tutorial will teach you all these mechanics with an easy and fun way even though in ranked matches all this knowledge will be tester really hard. The game is for sure “easy to learn, hard to master.” Especially when you start mixing colors and create duo-colored or even tri-colored decks.

Graphics-wise Spellweaver is not so pretty as one would expect. Even though the card art is especially beautiful, there is nothing indicating that this game is something more than a tabletop card game. No card animations, no interactions not even a victory scene to make you feel like a victor. Consider this a big downside to the game.

Even though Spellweaver contains a payment section where you can buy decks and cards, none of this is essential. You can complete quests and challenges and get all the cards you need instead of paying. If you want to throw some money on your screen though, the prices are fair and certainly worth the while.

To sum things up, Spellweaver is a polished TCG that manages to bring all good things that MTG offered but with a twist. Even if you are a begginer in TCG or a card games veteran, this one is a must try.
