Ragnarok Online 2 is a 3D cartoon-anime look-alike MMORPG published in 2013. It is the sequel of the classic now Ragnarok Online which counts millions of players throughout the world in its peak days. Ragnarok Online 2 takes the lore and characters of its predecessor and replaces its isometric top down camera style with new 3D graphics.

Even though its graphics are now considered dated, such cartoon details can’t be deemed as annoying or ugly. Characters and overall aesthetics could be tolerated by a lover of the genre in general, if there weren’t any other issues involved. Let’s see what’s wrong with it.

What a classic RO fan would love to see in a sequel would be the same amount of content as its predessecor, but it’s not the case. Ragnarok Online 2 contains a considerable amount of classes, which would be considered a good thing if it wasn’t a sequel. Ragnarok Online featured 49 different classes, so you can see a big downgrade here. Using a crafting proffession when you hit level 25 is a big part of the game, since it can be used to help other players, even offline since there’s an option to make your character an NPC to help other players craft gear at your absence.

In aspect of gameplay, RO 2 is pretty blunt. Its leveling up and battle system are overall slow and need a ton of grinding to reach max level. Most times you will be undertaking talk-kill-gather quests and smash one button skills to complete them which is pretty blunt. To sum it up, if you are a veteran of Ragnarok Online then its sequel won’t stand up to your expectations.

Even in PvP RO2 offers just two modes: 1v1 and Colloseum which is an arena where players are thrown against monsters. There’s also a siege mode named War of Emperium but it still doesn’t live up to the expectations.

Overall, Ragnarok Online 2 is a decent MMORPG but not a fair decent for Ragnarok Online. You can give it a try if you want to see why the first title was so famous about, but Tree of Savior would be a better MMORPG to try after Ragnarok Online.
