Prime World Review

Prime World is a Fantasy MMORPG game that was developed and published by Nival in May 2015. It features the combination of many game type mechanics integrated into one experience that include MOBA styled battles, single player missions and the chance to develop your own Hero and Castle.

Starting off the game the players have to choose one of two factions, The Imperium and the Keepers. This choice is permanent and it only affects the gameplay aesthetically as one is more technologically focused with a steam punk feel to it, whilst the other is more attuned towards nature.

The part that I found most interesting with Prime World are the Heroes that are the same for both faction and only have different names. They can be obtained by purchasing them with silver coins which are earned in the Castle Building and by playing. Unlike other MOBA games the heroes do not have a specific set of skills but can be equipped with up to 36 different talents. The even more amazing part is that there are hundreds of talents to choose from, so there is a great amount of freedom towards players to create their unique hero builds!

There are the typical MOBA maps that include a 5v5, called Borderlands, and a 3v3, called Outpost. There are also single and team player missions available that change throughout the day. This can be quite time consuming as it can take up to 40 minutes for all these game modes to be completed.

Even though the game brings all these ideas together the graphics are below par compared to the more polished MOBA games out there. However, Prime World manages to keep players interested with its uniqueness. I would recommend for players to check it out since it is a pleasant difference from the MOBA’s we have been used to playing.

Growing up I had the luck to encounter the art of video games at a very young age in South Africa in 1990. I was captivated from the first moment I played video games from the educational math games at school to the purely entertaining video games at home. This love cultivated in studying Audio and Visual Arts, where I created the interactive audiovisual play in the form of a video game titled "The Life of Death". Over the last few years I have also been a videogame journalist as a hobby. Recently, I completed my Postgraduate studies in Games Art and Design at the University of Hertfordshire. My goal is to get into the video games industry and be a part of the creation process of video games.
