Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds, is a free to play 2D online MMORPG game, by Nexon and one of the oldest ones with an active player base. Launched more than fifteen years ago, back in late nineties, it features an old-school fantasy Korean setting. Today’s players will have the chance to enjoy the retro environment and relive some of the greatest moments of the genre’s birth, while exploring the three kingdoms of Koguryo, Buya and Nagnang. The general look and feel certainly is outdated, the user interface is highly simplistic and in case you manage to overcome the steep learning curve and want to advance past level 49, a subscription fee is required.

However, Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds, showcases some great elements that many hardcore gamers will certainly appreciate. From level 5 onwards, you will be given the chance to select your hero’s class and his path. You can be a warrior, a mage, a rogue or a poet and based on your selection you will progress and learn new spells, abilities and professions. Nexus features real time combat, a player driven storyline and a vast open world, that can be fully explored as new zones open based on the completed quests. While many of them are pretty standard and consist of straightforward goals, some others require certain interactions with non-playable characters (NPCs) and the usage of specific keywords to advance. Karma also plays a crucial role, as it is used in-game for accessing content. Your task is to maintain a positive karma, by making proper choices, in order to be able to fully experience the game and not undermine its openness by limiting your options. Losing karma points is something that you should avoid and learn to keep under control,

For those that prefer to wander the lands as part of a team, class-specific clans are available to join. For the most “obsessed” players, exclusive membership clubs, called subpaths, are accepting admittance applications and are providing their members with exclusive rights and privileges. All in all, even though Nexus is one of the oldest MMORPG games around, it still shines some light and has a committed player base that welcomes veterans and newcomers alike.
