Mission Against Terror (M.A.T) is a free-to-play combination of an MMO character creation with First Person Shooter game style, released in 2010 by Suba Games. While its features seem like an interesting marriage between genres, M.A.T lacks a definitive character.
M.A.T can be described as a classic lobby-based FPS like Special Forces, K.O.S. and A.V.A. Such games take inspiration from Counter Strike 1.6 and that shows in this case while Mission Against Terror used to have a map called Dust 2, which was deleted in later updates.
In character creation, M.A.T doesn’t have a big variety of changes. Most changes are made later as paid content. The bad thing is except from paid hairstyles and costumes, you can also buy weapons with real money. These paid weapons range on power, with a logic of “the more you pay the stronger the weapon” making the game heavily pay-to-win.
Mission Against Terror features 14 fun and addictive modes, each with its own objectives and game style. Normally matches range from 30 to 45 minutes which is a bit long for a game of its caliber, with ranked matches last over an hour.
What’s interesting about M.A.T is its complimentary features. One of those is the dance option which lets you dance in the middle of the fight to gain health regeneration.Also with the use of the dance feature you get a third person view of your character so that you can see if anyone tries to flank you.
Social features in Mission Against Terror are up to the extremes. While its interactive chat rooms are a nice touch, the game compliments a marriage system which seems a bit unneeded. Married players get exclusive content like new ranking system, rewards and special events. But why should an FPS title have marriage as an option in the first place?
In conclusion, Mission Against Terror is a “full” FPS with many things to do and an addictive gameplay. Bad thing is, as every game of its genre, you can find many hackers and cheaters in your games. If you overlap this and the fact that it may get heavily pay-to-win, it’s a very good low-requirement FPS with MMO elements to spend your time with.
