MapleStory is a free to play 2D MMORPG game, by Nexon. Centered around beautiful 2D side-scrolling action and cartoonish graphic design, MapleStory manages to weave an interesting tale, blend-in some great RPG mechanics and craft memorable heroes and environments.

Evolving in the fantasy land of Maple World, you must defend your kingdom and defeat the evil Black Mage and his cult; the Black Wings. The environments are some of the most interesting and diversified found in similar games of the genre and each one bears its unique visual style. Character selection offers multiple alternatives, as there are over thirty unique classes ranging from warriors to mages, pirates and ninjas each one with his distinctive storyline, skills and abilities. Multiple fashion, cosmetics and pet additions are also available so you can customize your character and create a distinctive style.

The user interface and character control is fairly simple and you will be flying around in no-time. Most of your skills will require mana points to cast and if you manage to level up and reach level 140 or 200 you will get the chance to acquire devastating hyper skills, enhancing core attributes thus leading to greater damage. Your main path to leveling-up and acquiring new knowledge, weapons and gear is through quest completion, monster slaying and crafting. Unwanted items can be sold to NPCs or traded between players. In case you decide to team up with your friends and form a Party, you will get a bonus experience boost if all players are on a similar level range. For greater community engagement and better rewards, Guilds are a one-way direction and you can apply to join or create one if you meet certain criteria.

MapleStory is one of the most popular MMORPGs and not without cause. It manages to merge a retro-style fun gameplay action with some great MMO elements, extended quest variance and multiple customization options.
