Fractured Space is a free-to-play Strategy title from Edge Case Games. It takes place in deep space where two teams of five fight in an objective-based map with the purpose of capturing their enemy’s base.
Upon logging in the game you will have to play a tutorial which will explain all the very basics; after that, you will still have to play a couple of introductory matches in order to gain the experience needed to be able to participate in ranked sessions. Battle takes place in space and you take command of huge spaceships that fulfill certain roles, namely Attack, Defense or Support. In the beginning you will have to choose one of the available manufacturers and you will be given three basic ships, one of each “class”.
The basic game mode is Conquest where commanders are given a certain amount of time to choose a ship and a crew of five to man it. In Conquest, the battleground is divided in three sectors, Alpha and Beta being in the edges and Gamma in the middle. Alpha and Beta sectors include each team’s home base, a number of mining stations that once captured provide useful resources and two forward stations that play a very important strategic role. When you capture one these enemy stations, your ships will have the ability to forward jump to your enemy base making victory an easier task. The Gamma sector becomes available periodically and grants whichever team captures it significant bonuses that may make the difference between winning and losing!
The other mode is Frontline which is a faster version where the two teams are consisted of randomized spaceships and they fight in a single sector with just three mines to capture. The objective is again to capture the enemy’s base, but there is a time limit after which no repairs or respawns are allowed entering a Sudden Death phase.
Combat is easy to master and is absolutely spectacular with high resolution 3D graphics, detailed spaceship models and totally stunning visual and sound effects. Coordination, understanding of how the warp system works, knowledge of your vessel’s weakness and strengths, taking advantage of the battlefield and sometimes sheer luck are the elements which will grand you victory!
Fractured Space is an excellent representative of the strategy genre which will entertain you for many exciting hours!
