The developing team behind RuneScape has announced that they are going to shut down RuneScape Classic, the first version of the game, launched back in 2001.
They have admitted that the main reason behind this decision is the fact that they can’t support RuneScape Classic together with RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, as their tools are no longer compatible with the older one. Additionally, this incompatibility makes community safety problematic and macro detection tools inadequate resulting in the game being vulnerable to botting and 3rd party macro tools.
What is more, developers feel that they can no longer offer long term service reliably as the number of game breaking bugs is increasing and they cannot fully recover them something that worsens the whole gaming experience. So, considering all the above, they have decided that RuneScape Classic servers will be taken offline on the 6th of August 2018. After this date, players will not be able to log into the game and any remaining memberships will remain valid for both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.
